To get to Urk by public transport includes quite a long busride and as the days are still short in winter my sister picked me up from Amersfoort station and we drove to the former Island.
The hike I had found would first take us to the forest on the reclaimed land north of the village and then via the dyke of the reclaimed land Noordoostpolder back to the former island. There we found the 8 meter high Bult of Urk, the highest point of the province with the lighthouse on top of it.

We walk through the neighborhoods that were built after the Second World War in the Noordoostpolder

The Reede (Roads) symbolize the location where the fishing boats used to be anchored off the island of Urk

At the entrance to the landscaped Urkerbos there is a playground and fitness trail

The ditch may be an indication that you are walking 2.5 meters below sea level here

On top of the dike we see Urk and the lighthouse in front of us with a bit of wind and rain to go

Flevoland is the 12th province of the Netherlands and consists of only reclaimed land from the former Zuiderzee, the inland sea that is now IJssel lake after a dam was build in the north in 1932

This is the hike we took with the former island Urk in the lower left corner. All the other neaighbourhoods and the land in the north were reclaimed lands from after the 2nd world war
