Saturday June 25th - Porthleven to Lizard Point
The lighthouse at Lizard Point is another land mark that I have seen in the past from ships at sea. When I stayed a weekend in Cornwall during the 2 weeks of 'Go-life support' I walked the track of the South West Coast path from Porthleven to Lizard Point to have a view of the lighthouse onshore
It took some travel planning to do this. From my hotel in Falmouth I drove to Helston where I parked the car and took a bus to Porthleven. The bus stop was right at the harbour front as shown on the picture on the right.
After I got to see the light house (which unfortunately could not be visited at that time) I had to walk another mile inland to the village to catch a bus back to Helston.
It all worked out well and I had another great day on the trail!
Once I left Porthleven the trail was nice and relatively easy going. But as so often there were descends to beaches and climbs up. The picture on the left is taken looking back at a beach I just crossed with Porthleven in the distance. The picture below that one shows what lays ahead from the same point.
As I had only few bus options I had to leave the hotel before they were serving breakfast. I was happy that on Poldhu Beach as shown in the picture on the right there was a surf and beach club serving a full English breakfast!
The track became a bit more going up-and-down with each time crossing small streams. In the village of Mullian Cove small fishing boats were pulled high up the ramp. The coast also became rougher with rock formations getting closer to Lizard Point with lust before reaching the lighthouse an old lifeboat station.
