  Hiking in Shenzhen
January 27, 2007

Today I had the honor of being the hike leader and the great help of Daisy made this hike a success.

Angela, Trishna, Amanda and Kate came from Hong Kong and after a stop at my hotel we went to the Shenzhen Botanical Garden where we met Daisy and Tali. In the park we took a bus to the HongFa temple to start our walk up to Wu Tong Shan.

Although we did not actually make it to Wu Tong Shan (our progress was to slow) we had a great day with good views of the mountain area.
With the Hong Kong team members I completed the day with a relaxing body massage and a dinner in the Futian branch of my favorite Sichuan restaurant.

Holiday with Shaula, Yoram and Machiel
December 2006

On Friday December 8th Yoram arrived in Hong Kong. After a good night sleep we spend the Staurday afternoon in Kowloon and then on Sunday we moved to Shenzhen where I still had to work 2 weeks. Yoram had a good time there doing some work and shopping during the day and having fun at nights when we went for dinners and visited Bourbon Street bar where my favorite Phillippino band is playing.

On December 22nd Shaula and Machiel arrived in Hong Kong and that was the start of the real holiday. We moved into an apartment at the Horizon Suite hotel in Ma On Shan (New Territories).

We started with dinner and drinks on Friday night in Lan Kwai Fung; the well known bar area in Central (Hong Kong island).

The picture on the left shows us after the dinner in Sai Kung on Saturday December 23rd.

  Pat Sin Leng hike
November 5th, 2006

Todays hike started at Hok Tau reservoir near Fan Ling with a steep climb from 70 meters to Ping Fung Shan at about 600 meters altitude. Then up and down over several peaks to Pat Sin Leng and finally down to Tai Mei Tuk at the border of Plover Cove reservoir. A tough day but rewarded with great views!

On top of Ping Fung Shan we already notice a bushfire down in the valley north of us. It was about an hour later when we were at Pat Sin Leng ready to go down that we saw a helicopter that was taking water from Plover Cove reservoir and then discharged it over the bushfire. The next day the South China Morning Post mentioned there were about 10 small bushfires on Sunday that were all put out before nightfall.
  Hiking in Hong Kong
October 2006

During my stay in Hong Kong from July 2005 until the end of January 2006 I found out what a great place Hong Kong is for hiking. I joined the team that get together through the website Roz's Hiking Pages!

Coming from Shenzhen I went hiking again with them on October 8th, 2006. Got up early on the Sunday morning to meet other team members at Tai Wai KCR station and then walk all the way up to the Lion Rock and down to Kowloon Tong on the other side.

  Hiking the Great Wall
September 2006

When visiting China in July 2005 I got the idea to go hiking on the Great Wall. After evaluating several options I signed up for a hiking holiday off "Djoser Wandel", starting and finishing in Beijing.

On September 4th, 2006 I arrived in Beijing for the second time in my life to fulfill this wish. After a few days in and around Beijing we took the train to Shanghaiguan on the coast of the East China Sea and from there traveled west along the Great Wall; hiking on the wall and by bus. On September 15th we arrived in Beijing again.

Selecting the places on the map at the left will tell you more about the places where we went to and show some of the pictures I took.
