Today is mainly travel by car.
The first part of the trip is from Cairo to the Western or Libyan Desert. About 350 kilometers to the Bahariya Oasis where we will meet the crew that will accompany us on the hike.

The road is good and not too busy and our driver is happy to stop for a smoke at a cafe about halfway. Being in the desert for the first time it is interesting at first but after some time it does become a bit boring if you just sit there.

In Bahariya we have lunch in the house of the local travel agent while the team is getting our permits to enter the desert area. When all that is arranged we drive another 100 kilometer west to the starting point of the hike at the Chrystal Mountains.
